The Oregon Senate Environment & Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a last minute hearing for Monday March 25, 2013 on “Wolf Management in Oregon” at 3:00pm in Hearing Room C. This hearing is an informational hearing only and those testifying had to be invited by the Chair of the Committee, Senator Jackie Dingfelder (D). Not surprising that the list of those testifying includes the same organizations that have sued to stop the implementation of the Oregon Wolf Plan as well as blocked the taking of two wolves from the Imnaha pack that were killing livestock on a regular basis.
The Oregon Outdoor Council will be at the hearing along with our partners at the Oregon Hunters Association to monitor the hearing and listen to what we expect to be more lies from the anti-hunters about wolves. Remember folks, these are the same groups who claimed that wolves would have little to no impact on deer, elk or moose populations in Idaho, Montana or Wyoming. We find it very interesting, yet not surprising, that Chair Dingfelder didn’t invite any hunting organizations that are truly responsible for funding wolf management. Our partners at the Oregon Hunters Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Oregon Chapter of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep and Mule Deer Foundation would have been more than happy to testify about the real impacts of wolves in Oregon, but they weren’t given the opportunity. Thankfully the Oregon Cattleman’s Association was invited to testify, but leaving hunters out of the hearing is just plain wrong.
The OOC and our partners are working diligently on this issue and will report as soon as we can after the hearing has adjourned.
